I hope Santa brings me...

Today, Kindergartners wrote in their journals about what they hope to get from Santa.  I wrote the words "I hope Santa brings me..." for them to copy.  We are working on sounding out our own words and writing sentences.  They had to start with a capital letter, end with a period, and complete the sentence with their own words.  Mrs. Muller and I helped them with the correct spelling AFTER they had tried it on their own.  Below is  a list of what they asked for and a few pictures of their work!

I'm LOVING all the technology in our classroom!

The Smartboard, the Nook and the student computers are all such WONDERFUL learning tools!

Getting Crafty in the Promise Center

Last Friday was the Promise Center's "Family Ornament Making Event".  This was a very busy morning that would not have been possible with out the wonderful parents that showed up to help!  In my room, children could choose to make either a foam Christmas Tree, a puzzle piece reindeer, or a styrofoam ball ornament.

In Ms. Gustafson's room, children made this adorable sheep ornament.

In Ms. Kundert's room, children enjoyed cookies, hot chocolate, and coloring pages!

Later in the day, Kindergartner's walked their sheep down to Hofmeister Insurance to decorate their tree for the Small Town Christmas.

The snowmen that are hanging on our classroom door were lots of fun to make.  We painted them with a mixture of equal parts flour, salt, and water and added our snowman's details to our wet "paint".  They sure had fun making these!

Quilts from GG

Last week, our Kindergarten and 4K children received a very special gift!  Owen's Great Grandmother (GG), Angie. made a quilt for each of us...teacher's included!  That was 44 quilts!  How unbelievably generous and thoughtful of her!  Owen's mom, Valerie, delivered the quilts to our school for "GG", who lives in Fountain City.  We are making her "Thank You Notes" today for Owen to deliver for us.

Below are some photos for your enjoyment.

THANK YOU, ANGIE!

About The Teacher

My name is Heather Horton. This is my 5th year teaching at LaFarge Public Schools. I taught two years of Four-Year-Old Kindergarten & Early Childhood Special Education, followed by two years teaching Kindergarten. I am married and have a gorgeous little girl, who will turn two in January. We are expecting our second child at the end of September. I live next door to my parents, about forty minutes from LaFarge. The long commute is totally worth it! Not only do I get to see my family whenever I want, I also get to teach in a wonderful, supportive community with amazing children, families & co-workers!
