Busy, busy, busy!

I apologize for my lack of posts recently!  It has been so hectic lately that I've been TERRIBLE about remembering to take photographs to share with you.  I will try to be better the rest of the month, but May is by far the BUSIEST month of the school year.  Make sure these events are on your calendar so that you can help your child come to school prepared for all of these special days!

ï Thursday, May 10th à Kickapoo Valley Reserve
Service Learning Day (AKA.= KVR Day J)
o   Families are invited to join us for any portion of the day or all day!  This is an all day event where children from LaFarge Elementary spend the morning outdoors at the reserve.  Each grade gets a special service project to complete in the morning.  In the past, Kindergartners have helped plant Sunflower seeds, plant hanging baskets for the deck, pull weeds out of the wood chip path, etc.
o   After service projects are complete, we enjoy a picnic lunch on the deck.
o   Tom Pease will be performing for the children in the afternoon.
o   Children should wear old clothes and tennis shoes.  Please send a water bottle labeled with your child's name

ï Monday, May 14th àYoung Author Night & Art Show
o   Families are invited to visit the cafeteria and the gym after school  - anytime from 3:15 – 7:00 pm - to view LOTS of projects created by students of all ages at our wonderful little school.

§  YOUNG AUTHOR NIGHT – There will be tables set up in the cafeteria to display books that the children have written and illustrated.

§  ART SHOW – All school year, Ms. Hanson saves the best work from art students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 to display at the annual art show.

ï Wednesday, May 16th à Elementary Track & Field Day
o   Families are invited to watch as children Kindergarten – Grade 5 participate in track & field themed events throughout the day.  Again, you can join us for any portion of the day that you are able to attend, or all day if you wish!
o   Events include sack race, 3-legged race, softball toss, long jump, running races, tug-of-war, kickball, etc.
o   If the event is cancelled due to weather, it will be rescheduled for May 17th.
o   Your child should dress comfortably for a very active day. (Think shorts or sweat pants, T-shirts & tennis shoes)

ï Wednesday, May 30th à Promise Center Family Picnic & Swimming
o   In the past, the Promise Center has enjoyed a family picnic in the Village Park at the end of the school year to celebrate all our hard work.  Last year, for the first time ever, we decided to take the chidlren and their families to Viroqua for this special event.  It was such a hit that we've decided to do it again this year!
Families are encouraged to meet us at Bigley Pool (at the Viroqua High School) for a morning of swimming then follow us Eckhart Park (also in Viroqua) for a picnic lunch.  Because this is such a special day for the Kindergartners, and for safety reasons, we would like each child to have a special adult to accompany them to the pool.  If a parent is unable to attend, perhaps an aunt/uncle, babysitter, or family friend would be able to attend with your child.  Permission slips will come home soon.
o   Important Reminders for the day of the trip:
§  Children need to bring a sack lunch, unless you will be meeting them at the park with food for your family or they've signed up for a sack lunch prepared by the school for that day.
§  Children should wear suits to school UNDER their clothing.
§  Send underwear, socks and tennis shoes for children to put on after swimming, since we will be playing at the park after lunch.
§  You can sign your child out at the park and take them with you, or your child can return to school on the bus.

About The Teacher

My name is Heather Horton. This is my 5th year teaching at LaFarge Public Schools. I taught two years of Four-Year-Old Kindergarten & Early Childhood Special Education, followed by two years teaching Kindergarten. I am married and have a gorgeous little girl, who will turn two in January. We are expecting our second child at the end of September. I live next door to my parents, about forty minutes from LaFarge. The long commute is totally worth it! Not only do I get to see my family whenever I want, I also get to teach in a wonderful, supportive community with amazing children, families & co-workers!
